The Battle of Hastings didn't actually take place in Hastings

History

In 1066, the Battle of Hastings was fought between the English forces under King Harold Godwinson and the Norman and French troops under William the Conqueror. The battle is commonly known today as the deciding point in the Norman Conquest of England. Despite the name, the actual battle took place 7 miles (11 km) away from Hastings, in a town now known as Battle.
